Interview: Beccy Jean Makeup Artist

One great recent addition to the My Wedding Concierge family is Beccy Jean Makeup Artist. Based out of townsville she creates some beautiful wedding hair styles for brides, so let's take a look and learn a little more.

Let's learn a little bit about your business and services you offer, can you give us a brief overview?
My business is called Beccy Jean makeup artist, which consists of “only myself”, I have been operating for just over 8yrs and I am based in Townsville. I offer a mobile service, so I travel to my clients for the application of quality makeup for any special occasion, being weddings, formals, events, photographic shoots, fancy dress etc.

How did you get involved in the wedding industry?
Actually the wedding industry found me...I was always interested in using my artistic skills by getting into fashion or film makeup, then I took on a few wedding jobs and it just escalated from there. I was surprised at how big this industry is and there isn’t many weekends free when someone isn’t getting married and requires my service. I’ve really enjoyed being a part of all these weddings, it is just such a rewarding job and everyone involved is full of love and happiness, it’s a good environment to work in.

Do you have any kind of underlying philosophy, that guides the way you approach weddings?
I wouldn’t say I have a systematic approach to my Bridal clients, but I do believe in the old saying ‘my day, my way’ meaning that what the bride wants...the bride gets!

Yes I may sometimes advise her on certain looks but I never push the Bride into having what she’s not comfortable with. I think the one thing with Brides at a trial is majority of them haven’t yet decided on a makeup look because;
a) They are either so busy with every other department for the day and looking for a picture they like is not on the list or
b) They didn’t know there was all these different looks. So yes I guess I approach weddings with some guidance in regards to makeup but in the end I want the Bride and her bridal party to be satisfied with not only the job I’ve done but to feel confident that they look great, their way!!

Do you have a unique selling point, or something that makes your business extra special?
Working for myself gives me the opportunity to be flexible and make my own rules, so I do tend to go to great lengths for my clients when it’s required. I don’t think of myself as extra special, I know a lot of good makeup artists and while I do think I’m good at what I do I am always striving to be better!!

In your oppinion, what is it about your service that makes a wedding day extra special?
I think of myself as part of the crew when it comes to weddings, sometimes I feel as if I’m the wedding crasher being in a room full of family I’ve never met before. In my opinion being focused on the job I’m there to provide and feeling relaxed and friendly is the best service I can provide to any wedding day. The makeup is a big part of a girls routine when it comes to looking good, especially on the day of all days when everyone only has eyes for the Bride & her Bridal party. She wants to look her very best and that’s why I continue to attain new skills, new products and keep up to date with looks, if the Bride feels special then I’ve done my job!

We particularly noticed how nice the photos looked on your profile, is there an interesting story behind any of them?
There is never a dull moment but it’s usually jokes between us girls, I’m not one to kiss and tell when it comes to the Brides day J. There is one photo that is seen on My Wedding Concierge that is of a gorgeous red head girl with red lips, well she is only 17yrs old, not married and not a bridal photo. We had an interesting day shooting her it was a lot of fun, I’d love to see more Brides wanting their makeup to stand out like this and the look is amazing in photos.

If you could give one piece of advice to a bride (or groom) on their special day, what would it be?
My advice would be to only focus on what you want as a couple and not sweat the little things. You don’t want a big debt hanging over your heads into marriage, so keep to a budget, guests honestly don’t notice half the trinkets you may think you need and trust me...they are having a great time!! The day goes fast so soak it all in, feel the love and dish it out in return, but most importantly “don’t worry be happy”.

We're really excited that you've joined the My Wedding Concierge family, anything final before we sign off?
Thank you for giving me the opportunity and to all the Brides up North, please visit my website or my Facebook page: Beccy Jean makeup artist. I look forward to answering all your enquiries, and as much as I enjoy wedding day makeup I also do know how to apply “other makeup” as it sometimes gets called.
