Aydan and I dated 12 years ago when I was 19 in Alice Springs. After dating for 3 months, we broke up and went our own ways. 10 years later we bumped into each other on a Sunday night in Brisbane - where a few weeks later of back and forth text messages, we arranged to meet up and eventually started dating. 2 years on and we were still blissfully in love and had been talking about marriage and family.
One weekend we arranged 2 nights away to be able to attend Aydan's brother-in-law's 40th birthday down the coast. After dinner with friends we went back to our 1 bedroom suite where I retired to the couch with a glass of wine, better homes and gardens and a bit of FB catchup.
I had changed into my flanny PJs and had taken off my makeup. Aydan walked out of the bedroom and stood in front of me quite awkwardly - as he looked so confronting I asked him if was okay and "did he want to have sex?" (as we had started trying for a baby).
He chuckled and proceeded into a speech telling me how much he loved me and how he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me - he then knelt down onto one knee and took out the box from his pocket and asked me to "do me the honour of becoming his wife". We then spent the next few hours phoning and messaging friends and family to share the excitement - followed by lots of photos, giggles and wine together. As there was no one else around, it was so intimate with no distractions.
Aydan had arranged for the ring to be made some months earlier and had been carrying it around waiting for the right moment! He had it sized perfectly by getting my sister to check my ring size during her trip 4 months earlier! I completely underestimated my fiance. Never did I think that he listened to what I liked in a ring, nor would go and arrange one to be custom made.
