It’s no secret that the Wedding Photographer is one of the most crucial aspects of any wedding. For the couple getting married the wedding day is a whirlwind of preparations, emotions, scheduling, and improvising as some small things inevitably don’t go quite as planned. But in the weeks, months and years after a wedding when the champagne, music, and confetti have begun to fade into memory the photographer is the one who will make sure that you can look back and remember your wedding day in all its glorious detail.
With a clear understanding of the importance of your wedding photos it obviously becomes of critical importance to choose the right wedding photographer for you. I deliberately wrote the “right” wedding photographer instead of the “best” because I believe what makes a truly great wedding photographer is more than just being a talented cameraman (or woman). It requires a mixture of ability, experience, professionalism and personality. When it came to planning my own wedding it is something which I’m very glad to say that my chosen wedding photographer has in spades.
As a co-founder of My Wedding Concierge I have been involved in the wedding industry for several years, and in that time you come to know wedding photographers across the whole spectrum of the industry. Like many others we started our journey using our wedding directory which was full of great photographers in our area and began to whittle down a shortlist before the all-important first meeting. Leigh Warner Weddings was among our first picks because we liked his style of wedding photography, and we felt it would be a good match with our personalities. So with the “ability” requirement checked off the list it was time to go ahead and see if the other criteria could also be fulfilled.
We met Leigh at his office on the Gold Coast feeling a little nervous at what might come next, and hoping all of our other wedding day plans would work as we’d hoped. With a friendly smile Leigh welcomed us in and I was immediately struck by the sheer volume of work on display in his office. Samples of his work covered the walls and tables as well as numerous items being prepared to go out to his clients, filling the space and creating a definite impression that we weren’t the only ones who recognised Leigh’s talent for creating beautiful wedding photos. He was in demand!
When someone is furiously busy you might expect that they could develop a bit of a Prima donna complex and only work with those who fit their model of the perfect client, or pour cold water on the ideas we had come up with for our wedding day. Leigh does not suffer from these problems. He was as friendly and calming as you could hope for, while still maintaining professionalism in the process. He listened to our thoughts carefully and gave considered feedback which ticked off another crucial criterion, experience.
Not to say that Leigh was any kind of a “yes man” who would let us run amuck and agree with anything we said. There were numerous times when he would gently give some insight or suggest a better way of doing things which would work to our advantage, to which we were truly grateful.
Leigh’s manner was outstanding and he provided just what was needed to people who were nervously taking their first wedding planning steps. He radiated experience with his clear understanding of the scenarios we described, made expert suggestions and gave us more things to consider which we had overlooked. But most of all he was calm. Leigh was the kind of person who we knew we would want around us on the wedding day to help sooth nerves, and know we wouldn’t have to micro-manage him or worry about his photos turning out right. Personality, check.
By the time we walked out of his office we knew that we didn’t need to meet with any other photographers because he was the one we wanted. We were both so glad not only to have nailed down one of the major items on our wedding planning list, but that we were going to have one of the best wedding photographers in Queensland preserving our memories.
